Front end loaded! Brazen thieves steal two ATMS and cash after using a earthmover to smash open the front of a Woolworths

Brazen thieves have used a stolen earthmover to smash into a supermarket before taking off with two automatic teller machines.

The incident occurred at 1.20am on Wednesday morning at the South Morang Woolworths in Melbourne, with the burglars using the front end loader to smash through bollards installed a year ago to prevent ramraids.

The heavy vehicle was left outside in the supermarket’s car park while the assailants fled with the stolen machines and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The owner of the shopping centre, Tony Jones, told 3AW radio that the destruction would undoubtedly have a negative impact on the centre’s business.

‘The whole of the front door has been smashed in, bits of ATM are everywhere, it’s really going to affect trade, we put up bollards about 12 months ago, whoever decided to do this has gone to the most extreme method possible,’ he said.

‘It’s just outrageous.’
